Bongs play a two-fold role in filtering some of the toxins such as ash and tar, they also help cool down the smoke prior to inhalation, reducing the temperature reduces the risk of burning your throat and lungs. 

All of the glass bongs, glass bubblers, water pipes, dab rigs, and, oil rigs we sell are made from borosilicate glass. This is specially treated glass known to some as pyrex. The boring science bit, it has low thermal expansion properties; meaning it doesn't expand and contract a lot when heated and cooled. It doesn't mean it's indestructible, it does break if dropped and can crack and become weaker when you apply heat to glass. Always take care when using heat on glass.
